My main research activities are focused at occupational ergonomics and the etiology and pathophysiology of low back pain and upper extremity disorders. In my PhD project I started to study pushing and pulling of heavy loads at work in relation to musculoskeletal symptoms and this is still one of my main research topics. I supervise projects that try to explore the postural and biomechanical factors of pushing and pulling that may or may not contribute to high loads at the low back or shoulders. At the same time, projects are designed to be able to convert the results of the projects into ergonomic measures and guidelines for practice. Other research topics are developing methods to assess hand loads (grip forces) at the workplace and the effectiveness of interventions at the workplace that might prevent the development of upper extremity symptoms.
